Web tool provides map of water fountains, splash pads in Windsor-Essex
'This is just a start'
Looking for a water fountain? There's a map for that.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has created a web-based map tool called 'WECHU Water' designed to help you find drinking water and water facilities in Windsor-Essex.
"It originally started to locate all the water fountains," said Alicia Chan, registered dietician with WECHU. It expanded to include swimming pools, beaches and splash pads as well.
"We want to encourage families and friends spending time together," said Chan. "Having this information easy to access together helps that happen."
Chan said hydration, sun safety and being able to provide tips about being outdoors were big factors in why WECHU put the map together.
"This is just a start," said Chan. Users who notice a drinking fountain or splash pad not on the map can fill out a form online to get it added to the map.
"The more information we have, the more people who will use it," said Chan.
The map is mobile-friendly and free to use.
