Slovakian honey cookies: (Almost) too beautiful to eat
Windsor Morning's Jonathan Pinto travels to Kingsville to learn about medovniky, a Slovakian Christmas treat
Move over, gingerbread.
This Christmas, consider feasting on medovniky.
Also known as honey cookies, medovniky are a popular treat in Slovakia and other European nations during the Christmas season.
In Windsor-Essex, you can purchase them from a new business in Kingsville called Mili's Bakery.
In addition to being tasty, the medovniky from Mili's are also incredibly beautiful. Each cookie takes 15-30 minutes to decorate. They start at $3.
I met up with Milada Tillingerova, the owner of Mili's Bakery, to learn about the art of medovniky. Click on the audio player to hear more.
Looking to try some Slovakian honey cookies?
Mili's Bakery doesn't have a storefront — so you have two options.
The first is to find her at the Kingsville Farmers Market this Saturday, December 19th. It takes place at the Lions Community Hall (23 Mill St. West) in Kingsville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If you can't make the market, you can also order cookies over the phone. Milada's number is (226) 479-6158. Visit her website to see more examples.
You'll have to act fast — orders need to be placed by Saturday in order to get these cookies for Christmas.
