Salvation Army disaster relief expert off to Saskatchewan wild fires
A disaster relief expert with the Salvation Army in southern Ontario is going to help people affected by the large forest fires in Saskatchewan.
Perron Goodyear, who is with the Salvation Army's London-Ontario Great Lakes Division, will provide leadership relief in Saskatoon.
More than 13,000 people have been forced from their Saskatchewan homes.
More than 100 wild fires are burning in the province.
"There will be those who have lost homes and others who would have damage to their homes. So, certainly that would be an extremely stressful time," Goodyear said. "A lot of it is not being sure and not know exactly what the status is.
"We try to meet the basic needs to start with; things like food and clothing and trying to get them the necessities, help them cope with the stress of their day."
Goodyear expects to be in Saskatchewan for a week, but that time could be extended.
