Nicole Werstein from the Square Deal Market talks about her shop's kielbasa smoker.

I was driving on Drouillard Road recently when I saw a building called the Square Deal Market.

I love grocery stores — especially historic ones. The sign outside this one said it was established in 1928, so I decided to check it out.

It wasn't exactly what I was expecting.

Turns out this shop, while once a full-service grocer, sells and produces only one product today: Rudy's kielbasa.

It's a sausage not only enjoyed by generations of Windsorites, but the likes of people such as Alice Cooper, Mel Gibson and the Detroit Lions.

This week, Jonathan told us the story of one of Windsor's favourite tubed meats: Rudy's kielbasa.

Square Deal Market is located at 1231 Drouillard Rd. in Windsor. They're open Monday - Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and only accept cash. Rudy's kielbasa can also be found at a few independent grocers in the City of Windsor including Fred's Farm Fresh on Huron Church Road, Remark on Howard Avenue and the three Mr. Meat stores.
