Ojibway development gets go-ahead from OMB
The City of Windsor will be allowed to rezone the parcel of land abutting the eastern edge of the former Windsor Raceway for commercial development.
The land is on Matchette Road, near the Ojibway Park Nature Reserve.
The Ontario Municipal Board struck down appeals from Nancy Pancheshan and Anna Lynn Meloche.
The pair argued increased traffic from a commercial big box development would endanger local wildlife.
Coco Paving already has permits to build on the land. The plans call for retail development.
Pancheshan was upset by what the OMB had done.
"It knocked me down for sure," Pancheshan told CBC News on Tuesday.
Pancheshan said the city, the province and the local conservation authority need to "step up" to help protect the plants and animals that live in the area.
