Essex MPP calls out Health Minister Deb Matthews

Dalton McGuinty's Liberal government allowed ORNGE to use scarce health-care dollars in "a rampant and reckless way," an opposition MPP says.

During question period Monday morning, New Democrat Taras Natyshak challenged Health Minister Deb Matthews to explain the misspent millions.

'Where's the money?' — NDP MPP Taras Natyshak

"We're now hearing that ORNGE has lost nearly $25 million. Where's the money?" Natyshak asked.

Matthews said the public wants her department to fix the problem, and she said she would.

However, that was not good enough for Natyshak.

"It's not about taking responsibility for fixing the problem, it's about taking responsibility for creating it in the first place," Natyshak said.

Natyshak said the Liberals took care of Liberal insiders before health care.

Matthews said the allegation is something she takes "exception to," while cautioning all MPPs to wait for an OPP investigation at ORNGE to be completed.

ORNGE came under fire last week when it was revealed the service left a baby in Windsor waiting four hours for a transfer.
