Blak's Bakery co-owner Tony Blak talks about their original oven, which dates back to 1918.

In Windsor, many of us associate Blak's Bakery on Langlois Avenue with the many varieties of paczkis they sell on Shrove/Fat Tuesday.

In reality, this historic bakery was built on much healthier product: rye bread. Today, about a dozen different varieties of rye are offered.

To learn more about their most popular product, I met up with Tony Blak, the co-owner of Blak's Bakery. Tap on the audio player to hear more — including the secret of how their beautiful marble rye is made.

Many of us associate Blak's Bakery in Windsor with the paczkis eaten on Fat Tuesday - but really, Blak's was built on rye bread.

Looking for a loaf of fresh rye bread?

A number of local restaurants and delis in Windsor use Blak's rye bread. Retail stores where you can buy entire loaves include Fred's Farm Fresh on Huron Church Road and Schwab's & Primo's on Tecumseh Road.

For the best selection and freshest loaves, pay a visit to the bakery itself, which is located at 1022 Langlois Ave. in Windsor. Their rye bread is ready by 10 a.m.
