Snowfall warning in effect for Windsor-Essex, Leamington, Chatham-Kent
Environment Canada expects at least 10 cm of snow Wednesday
The third snowfall of the season is hitting the region, and Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning.
A low pressure system in the area will bring with it about 15 cm of snow on Wednesday, which will begin to slow down around midnight.
A snowfall warning is in effect for Windsor and Essex County, Leamington, Chatham-Kent and Rondeau Park.
Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible for Windsor and Essex County and Leamington.
Sarnia-Lambton could get another 5 to 10 cm on Thursday because of snow squalls produced by north winds, said Environment Canada meteorologist Kelly Hobelman.
Hobelman said this is more snow than earlier forecasts had suggested.
The good news is, winds have remained light so the storm will not have the additional blowing snow the region saw on Tuesday. However, there's enough wind that afternoon temperatures in the range of -6 C have a wind chill around -13.
The overnight low will hit around -12 C, with a wind chill near -20.
Record breaker?
The record for most snow on the ground on this date is 15 cm, set in 2010.
