More charges laid in alleged Chatham-Kent dogfighting ring

Police originally arrested four people and seized 31 dogs from a property in Tilbury East Township, back in October.

More charges have been laid in relation to an alleged dogfighting ring in Chatham-Kent.

Police originally arrested four people and seized 31 dogs from a property in Tilbury East Township, back in October.

Further police investigation led to the search of two properties in the Kent Bridge area in March, which led to the seizure of seven pitbull-type dogs, which are prohibited in the Province of Ontario.

As a result of that followup investigation, a 32-year-old Kent Bridge man now faces seven counts of unlawfully owning a pit bull type dog, contrary to the Dog Owner's Liability Act.

He was arrested in March and was already facing three counts of cruelty to animals, laid during his arrest at that time.

All told, the police investigation has resulted in four people being arrested and more than 300 charges laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Dog Owner's Liability Act.
