Junior hockey fans will get an up-close glimpse of the coveted Memorial Cup during a 10-day tour
Junior hockey fans will have plenty of chances to get an up-close look of the coveted Memorial Cup trophy when the tournament kicks off next month.
The trophy will be delivered to people's backyards during a 10-day tour of Windsor's 10 wards, visiting libraries, community centres, parks and legions, Mayor Drew Dilkens announced Thursday.
There will also be extended tours into Essex County, giving as many people as possible a chance to see the cup during the tournament held May 18-28 at the WFCU Centre.
"This unique opportunity will make it even easier for residents to take part in the Memorial Cup festivities right in their own backyards," Dilkens said.
The cup will arrive from Sarnia to Dieppe Park on May 18, travelling aboard the Canadian Coast Guard vessel Private Roberston V.C.
After the cup is offloaded at 6:30 p.m. it will be paraded up Ouellette Avenue to the Essex County War Memorial outside City Hall for a ceremony and public viewing.
Tickets for single games are available on teh Memorial Cup website, Dilkens announced.
