LaSalle police are reviewing all sexual assault investigations from the past four years after a newspaper investigation that looked at "unfounded" rates of sex assaults by police services across the country.
Police chief launches review of how it investigated sexual assaults
LaSalle police are reviewing all sexual assault investigations from the past four years, the force announced Wednesday.
The move comes just days after a Globe and Mail investigation that examined the rates of sexual assault reports deemed "unfounded" by police services across the country.
"Each sexual assault investigation conducted during the past four years will be independently reviewed and an outcome of each incident will be provided," said Chief John Leontowicz in a news release.
The review will compile statistics on:
- Whether criminal charges were laid after reports
- Why cases were deemed "unfounded"
- What became of cases that were "unfounded" and what was the reason for the classification
