International Plow match aims to set Guinness records in Chatham-Kent

Something big is coming to Chatham-Kent in September — something organizers anticipate will bring out 80 to 100,000 people.

It's the 101st edition of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo

Something big is coming to Chatham-Kent, in September, that organizers anticipate will bring out 80 to 100,000 people.

It's the 101st edition of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo.

And since they're going to have this big event anyway, organizers figured they'd do something to make it even bigger.

"Let's add something to it. 100 years is a long time, and here's a chance to put our mark on it, make people remember Chatham-Kent," said Ellwood Shreve.

The plan is to set some world records, and Shreve is in charge of making that happen.

He said Guinness World Records has already endorsed their attempts at several categories.

"Creating the world's largest smoothie, which is about 1,000 gallons, creating the the world's largest box of popcorn and also creating the the world's longest skewer of vegetables," he said.

However, Guinness was not interested in seeing them try to set a record for most people eating corn on the cob at the same time. But they still plan to do that, just for fun.

The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo takes place in Chatham-Kent from September 18th to 22nd.
