Influx of infill developments evidence of Windsor's strong economy

Developers are scooping up sites in Windsor as the strong economy continues to surge, according to members of the city's Planning, Heritage and Economic Development Committee.

Back when he started on the committee, Coun. Irek Kusmierczyk said they'd rarely hear from builders, but the past few months have been a very different story.

"Now almost every planning committee we're seeing one or two or three applications for developers to build downtown or in the inner areas of the city," he said. "It's fantastic and really testifies to the strength and the health of the economy in Windsor."

The committee is also reviewing proposals in the Howard Corridor, East and South Windsor which shows the past debate over hiking development charges isn't really an issue, Kusmierczyk added.

"Right now the demand is so hot I don't think developers are looking at the charges at all, they're just building," he said. "They need land, they're just looking for spaces … where they can build."
