Multiple collisions keep westbound Highway 401 temporarily closed in Ridgetown
Highway expected to remain closed until around 10 p.m.
Police are on the scene of a transport truck roll-over near Ridgetown that's expected to keep the westbound lane of Highway 401 closed until late Tuesday evening.
The truck was carrying auto parts when it rolled over in a construction zone on the highway at Victoria Road around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.
"It was traveling through the construction zone, lost control and then entered into the North ditch," said Const. Jay Denorer, with the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police.
A charge of careless driving is expected to be laid against the driver, who suffered minor injuries.
Denorer said that a crane will be brought in to clear up the scene.
Baby seat on board
As traffic jammed from the first roll-over a second transport truck collided with a vehicle, sending it into the median.
The woman driving had minor injuries — but they found a baby seat in the back that was empty at the time.
"If there was a baby in that seat the baby would not have survived," said Denorer.
The driver of the transport truck is also expected to be charged with careless driving, along with additional charges.
