Sarnia police raid and shut down Green Gods marijuana dispensary
The establishment was told a week ago to stop operations immediately
A Sarnia pot shop has been shut down after police executed a search warrant Tuesday.
The business had been visited the week prior and told to shut down.
"They had a conversation with them, advising them there was no legal license to operate," said Const. Giovanni Sottosanti with Sarnia police.
"They were told legal action would be taken," if the operations didn't stop immediately on Jan. 2, said Sottosanti.
Officers returned Tuesday with a warrant and seized various cannabis products and cash valued at about $22,000.
The following was seized:
- 2,100 grams of marijuana bud.
- 13 grams of shatter.
- 71 cannabis marijuana cigarettes.
- A small quantity of edibles.
"Initially they had a sign up that was basically hand-drawn," said Sottosanti about the initial visit. When the shop was raided on Jan. 8, a permanent sign was in place.
"That's got to give you some indication."
It's the second time in a month that a pot shop in Sarnia has been shut down.
Sottosanti said while police understand cannabis purchase and consumption is legal in Ontario, selling is a different matter.
"You can't just open up your own liquor store or bar without proper license from the government," said Sottosanti. "It's the same thing here."
Police said they are concerned about unregulated cannabis being sold, pointing to mould found in a supply elsewhere in Canada.
"You can tell it's not the best stuff," said Sottosanti. "We know this stuff is not coming from legal sources."
