The bridge authority is inviting community members to take a closer look at the Gordie Howe International Bridge's Canadian plaza with a walking tour on Saturday.

It's an opportunity for residents to walk the construction site and see the progress first-hand.

"We're very proud of the progress we've been able to make on the Canadian plaza," said Michael Cautillo, president and CEO of the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority.

"What people are going to be able to see is the construction of the perimeter access road, we're going to point where the customs buildings and facilities are going to go, we're going to point out where the main bridge is going to go."

Cautillo says the bridge authority has made arrangements with its contractor to provide a safe area to walk through and allow access to the active construction site.

Walking tours scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Sandwich and Broadway Streets, with access off Sandwich. Parking is limited. Construction boots are not required but participants are asked to wear appropriate footwear.
