Foreign Trade Zone designation to bring jobs and business opportunities to Windsor-Essex
FTZ title will help promote the region and attract investors
Windsor-Essex has been designated a Foreign Trade Zone, a title federal politicians hope will help bring business opportunities and jobs to the region.
The area is the eighth such zone in Canada, according to Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Navdeep Bains.
"As a trading nation, Canada recognizes the strong connection between trade and good, well-paying jobs," he said. "We are committed to strengthening this region and all of southern Ontario as an international hub with world market accessibility."

—@weecdevAs a Foreign Trade Zone, Windsor-Essex will be promoted as a hub for trade, taking advantage of its easy access to the United States and manufacturing base as ways to attract investors, explained Stephen Mackenzie, CEO of the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation.
"The FTZ Point designation will help to reinforce Windsor and Essex County's position as an integral region for economic development, trade and partnerships," said Essex County Warden Tom Bain. "We are pleased with the federal government's announcement ... which helps to support our local economic priorities, while also ensuring regional growth from a global perspective."
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens also cheered the announcement, saying the designation "further enhances our ability to attract investment and assist local businesses to access foreign markets."
