ERCA issues water safety statement as strong winds lash Lake Erie shoreline

Strong winds could cause shoreline erosion and breakwall damage along the Lake Erie shoreline in Leamington, Kingsville, Essex and parts of Point Pelee, according to the Essex Region Conservation Authority.

Strong winds could cause shoreline erosion and breakwall damage along the Lake Erie shoreline in Leamington, Kingsville, Essex and parts of Point Pelee, according to the Essex Region Conservation Authority.

Winds are expected to remain strong all day Tuesday, with gusts up to 50 km/h from the southwest.

ERCA warns waves crashing over breakwalls can be "extrememly dangerous."

"Children, pets and livestock should be kept away from flowing water, standing water and breakwall/shoreline areas," the water safety statement adds.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has also issued a flood watch for Chatham-Kent.
