Environment Canada downgrades snow forecast for Windsor-Essex

A special weather statement is still in effect for Windsor and Essex County, but Environment Canada is downgrading the amount of snow forecast in the region over the next few days. 

A storm system moving through the American midwest should hit southern Ontario Tuesday night, bringing with it snow and rain beginning Tuesday night. 

Though initial projections from Environment Canada suggested there could be as much as 25 centimetres of snow during the storm, it appears the precipitation will be mostly liquid.

"It may start out briefly as some snow or freezing drizzle, then switch over fairly quickly to rain on Wednesday morning," said Rob Kuhn, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. 

"It looks like a cold, wind-driven rain, 15 to 25 milimetres. Having a bit of wet snow mixed in at times is not out of the question, but it does look to be primarily rain at this point," Kuhn said.  

If the rain does change to snow Wednesday night, between two and four centimetres are predicted to fall.
