Ellen DeGeneres gives Windsor nurse $20K for grad school
Maggie Boglitch works as a registered nurse in Detroit
A Windsor nurse who has devoted her career to supporting others received a helping hand of her own this week thanks to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
Maggie Boglitch, a registered nurse who works in Detroit, was called up to participate in 'Know or Go,' a game where players stand on a platform and answer questions — one wrong answer and they're dropped down below.
DeGeneres called nurses "wonderful" people and asked Boglitch what she loves about her job.
"It's honestly just the most wonderful feeling to give back to people," she answered, adding Ellen was her inspiration. "It's the most amazing thing in the world."
When a big red curtain was rolled back, it was revealed Boglitch would get to play the game with her sister Lindsey and mother Sam.
The trio took on questions about the importance of family, how to spell tequila and the height of the leaning tower of Pisa.
After her family members fell, Boglitch was left standing, but even she was dropped after failing to correctly answer how many shows Ellen stars in each year (the answer is 170).
Still, the nurse managed to win a $1,000 Visa giftcard and $20,000 towards her grad school payments, a surprise that left her in tears.
"I just want to be the best nurse that I can be," she said.
