Ontario Provincial Police say tractor-trailer struck cement barrier, caught fire
Police have charged the driver of the tractor-trailer that crashed on Highway 401 causing so much damage to the road that it was shut down overnight Thursday.
The 57-year-old man from Windsor was heading westbound when he lost control near Bloomfield Road, slammed into two cement barriers, pushing one of them into the eastbound lane, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
His truck then caught fire, but the driver was not injured.
Damages caused traffic lanes in both directions to be shut down for a couple hours. Eastbound lanes eventually opened up, but westbound lanes suffered damages that required emergency repairs.
The highway reopened shortly before 8 a.m. Friday.
The man has been charged with careless driving.
