Detroit Windsor Tunnel renovations have been delayed until 2017.
Earlier this year, officials announced improvements, including the removal and replacement of the tunnel ceiling, as well as electrical, communications, lighting and masonry work.
While under construction, the tunnel would have closed for brief periods in the evening.
Beyond the fact the project needs to be "re-engineered," Detroit Windsor Tunnel LLC did not say specifically why the renovations have been delayed.
"The renovations will happen, the project just needs to be re-engineered before we begin, but our travelers can rest assured that once the schedule is confirmed they will be notified and advised of the new work schedule," DWT president Neal Belitsky said in a statement.
