Brighton Beach not source of rumble: MOE

Provincial officials continue to dismiss the latest theory that the Brighton Beach power plant is the origin of the strange rumbling noise that has agitated so many people in Windsor.

George Abbott lives on Prince Road. He heard the noise outside the plant.

"Just very very faintly, off and on," Abbott said.

Although the Ministry of Environment confirms the sound is coming from that general area, it says the plant was completely shut down in March when reports of the noises began.

"Officers have gone to the area and have noted the noise that seems to be what everybody's talking about, and we have wrote out all sources in Ontario," said Terri Gilbert of the Ministry of Environment.

Provincial officials insist the noise and vibrations are not coming from any industrial source here in Ontario.

So, Windsor city Coun. Al Maghnieh plans a trip to Michigan on Friday to investigate whether industry around Zug Island is a factor.

"I've received emails and calls from Detroit residents who are affected by this in the Rouge River area, and I hope to reach out to them and particularly pay them a visit and see what information or support we can get from those folks," Maghnieh said.

Maghnieh received from Windsor residents more than 30 complaints about the noise Sunday evening.

The Ministry of Environment is also working with American officials to see if the sound is coming from Zug Island.
