Several recreational fishermen were rescued Friday from their overturned boat on Lake St. Clair.

Windsor police were called out to an area just east of Peche Island around 1:30 p.m. because someone reported seeing a sail boat in distress during the afternoon rain storm.

Officers never found the sail boat, but did come upon the recreational fishermen. The U.S. Coast Guard was also alerted and took the fishermen back to shore.

Windsor police continued to search for the sail boat.

"Everyone seems accounted for at this time," said spokesman Const. Andrew Drouillard. "The original call about the sail boat could be nothing, it could just be a couple people sailing out there and they could be fine."
