Boaters have to move after Lakeview Marina closes

Boaters who reserved dock slips at Lakeview Marina are looking for somewhere else to call home for the season.

There are 250 slips at Lakeview Marina, which the City of Windsor decided to close last week after the docks submerged due to high water levels. All 250 docks were all reserved for the season.

Joe Beattie is a part owner of Beatty Sunset Marina, where all the docks are dry — and the calls have been coming in fast for slip reservations.

"It's been good for business in one aspect, but you've got to be aware of a lot of floating debris out in the water," said Beattie about the high water levels.

Beattie said his marina is at about 95 per cent capacity — they weren't that full last year.

"They're starting to fill up [across the city]," said Beattie.

He said other boaters are upset about Lakeview's closure, but they're doing the best they can to accommodate everyone.

"We're filling up pretty fast," said Beattie. "Hopefully they have a great summer here."
