Knife-wielding pharmacy robber took employee hostage

The man, 61, entered the the Shopper's Drug Mart near the intersection of Wyandotte Street and Campbell Avenue around 4:45 p.m. and went directly to the pharmacy counter and announced a robbery.

After robbing a west-end pharmacy for narcotics, a Toronto man held an employee at knife point in order to escape the store, according to Windsor police.

The man, 61, entered the the Shoppers Drug Mart near the intersection of Wyandotte Street and Campbell Avenue around 4:45 p.m. and went directly to the pharmacy counter demanding drugs.

He left the store with the narcotics in a backpack. He used a repellant spray to fend off another pharmacy worker who followed him. No pharmacy employees were injured.

Police arrested the man shortly afterwards near College and Bridge avenues. Officers recovered the stolen drugs, knife, and repellant.
 
The Toronto man is charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, possession of stolen property, and taking a person hostage.
