1st snowless December in Windsor caps coldest year on record
For the first time since weather data was first recorded more than 70 years ago, no measurable amount of snow fell in Windsor during the month of December in 2014.
Environment Canada reported only a trace of snow for the whole month.
It breaks the previous record-low accumulation of 1.3 cm, established in 1943.
By contrast, Windsor has 54.2 cm in December 2013.
Meanwhile, November of 2014 was snowier that December — by far. Windsor has 20.2 cm in November 2014, That's a record and nearly 10 times the amount that fell in the same month in 2013, when just 2.8 cm was reported.
Geoff Coulson, a warning preparedness meteorologist, says the weather pattern is changing soon.
"We are getting back to somewhat colder-than-normal temperatures as we head in the first part of the month of January so there will be more opportunity for snowfall as we get further into January and February," he said. "It still looks we've got some more winter in store for the Windsor area."
Environment Canada says 2014 was the coldest year on record in Windsor with an average temperature of 8.2. The previous record was established in 1978 with 8.4.
The normal average temperature for Windsor is 10.
