The 62,000-square-foot York Street GO concourse at Union station officially opened to the public this morning.

Part of GO's effort to accommodate rising ridership, the new concourse is nearly double the size of its predecessor, the Bay Street concourse.

It features automated ticket machines, PRESTO vendors and a new customer service counter, as as well as a covered walkway that connects to the PATH network and additional GO platforms.

The current Bay Street concourse will remain open until the end of the Pan Am Games in late July, when it will be closed for renovations. It is expected to reopen sometime in 2017.

By the time both projects are completed, the concourse area will be three times larger than what exists today, according to GO Transit's website.
