A winter storm that swept north from Texas was expected to wallop Toronto Wednesday afternoon. Instead, heavy snow turned to heavy rain that tapered off throughout the day.

Mother Nature will try our patience again Thursday as more wet snow is expected to fall on Toronto streets and sidewalks.

Environment Canada is forecasting periods of rain mixed with snow Wednesday night and light snow ending around noon on Thursday. The agency said we can expect about two centimetres of snow and that the temperature will hover at the 0 C mark.

CBC News Toronto meteorologist Jay Scotland says temperatures will fall through the day to the -1° C to -2° C range , and that some ice patches are possible for the afternoon commute home.

"Blowing snow will be the bigger issue tomorrow as winds will increase through the afternoon with gusts out of the north-northwest topping 50 km/h," Scotland said.
