A long search led to the unveiling of Deputy Chief Mark Saunders as the city's next police chief.
And the new chief appears eager and ready to step into his new role.
"To say that I'm excited about this opportunity would be an understatement," the chief-designate said after the announcement was made on Monday.
The veteran Toronto officer will be taking the reins from Chief Bill Blair, who will retire within days.
Saunders has said he will present a blueprint on the changes he intends to make as chief in the days ahead, including how he plans to tackle police budgets that continue to grow.
