Via Rail to resume Toronto-to-Winnipeg service Friday
Service was interrupted by March derailment of CN freight train near Gogama, Ont.
Via Rail says it will resume passenger train service between Toronto and Winnipeg on Friday.
Via halted passenger service on the route following a CN freight train derailment in northern Ontario on March 7.
Via says an eastbound train will depart from Vancouver on April 10 and a westbound train will leave Toronto on April 11.
The railway says delays may occur and it will keep its passengers informed of any en route schedule changes.
The CN derailment near Gogama, Ont., caused numerous tank cars carrying crude oil to catch fire and spill into a local river system.
The Transportation Safety Board has said track failures may have played a role in the derailment and has asked Transport Canada to review the risk assessments for that stretch of track.
