Uber to deliver kittens to offices in Toronto Thursday
Uber now in the kitten business to support cat rescues
If you need a furry pick-me-up at work this Thursday, Uber has you covered.
The ride-hailing service has partnered with local cat rescues and shelters to bring kittens to offices across Toronto.
All you have to do is request them on the Uber app between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. – the same way you request a ride.
The kitten cuddle service will help support the Annex Cat Rescue, Just Paws Cat Rescue, Team Cat Rescue and the Etobicoke Humane Society.
A shelter or rescue employee will help with each of the kitten deliveries, so those helpers will let you know how you can adopt a cat.
It will cost you $30 for 15 minutes of playtime with the cats, and if you end up smitten with a kitten, all of them are available for adoption.
The move follows a long period of bumpy relations between the ride-hailing service, the City of Toronto and the local taxi industry, culminating in the city taking Uber to court.
Earlier this year, a judge ruled Uber is not operating as a taxi brokerage and is not bound by the city's taxi regulations. The service does not dispatch drivers over phone lines — language that is specifically used in Toronto's taxi bylaws.
Last month, Toronto city council voted to ask city staff to develop new rules to accommodate Uber in its taxi and limousine bylaws.
