Mayor John Tory says "the better way" is aiming to reduce subway delays by 50 per cent this year, with a new strategy that's part of the 2016 TTC budget .

Tory spoke about plans to improve the TTC and what the service accomplished last year at a news conference at the Davisville car house Monday morning.

The plan to speed up service includes adding more trains to the Yonge-University subway line later this year.

"More trains mean better service," Tory told reporters this morning. The Mayor said that the addition of a couple of new trains on the Yonge-University line last year helped reduce delays on the line by 25 per cent in 2015.

Delays were also reduced on Bloor-Danforth line by 9 per cent, according to Tory.

Other items in the budget geared toward speeding up service include buying six new work trucks for TTC maintenance and a unspecified number of new buses.

Tory says the plan is to build on the progress the service made last year, when he says customer satisfaction reached an "all-time high" of 85 per cent.

The 2016 TTC budget goes before City Council for approval in two weeks.
