TTC charter vows to improve, modernize service

The TTC is pledging to be cleaner, more accessible and more modern in 2015 — and today spelled out the details with the release of its latest customer charter.

The TTC is pledging to be cleaner, more accessible and more modern in 2015 — and today spelled out the details with the release of its latest customer charter

The 38-point list includes pledges to install more blue priority seats in its vehicles, to fix the street-level elevator at Dundas West Station and to provide Wi-Fi access in the "U" section of the subway's Line 1.

The TTC also plans to upgrade collector booths so riders can pay for a single ride with a debit or credit card, or even download a family pass on a cell phone.

Other points relate to keeping transit clean and running on time. 

"None of the individual items in themselves may be Earth-shattering," said TTC CEO Andy Byford, "but [the charter] sends a strong message we're serious about improvement and customer services."

This is the third year in a row the TTC has released a charter. There were 39 items last time, seven of which were still incomplete by the end of 2014. 

"When one is missed, [we] add it to the list for next year," Byford said. "We won't let it drop, won't let it quietly disappear. We will bring it back ... and keep reporting until it is delivered."
