Six new TTC subway stations spanning 8.6 km north into York Region opened on Sunday, and to mark the day, all trips across the TTC network are free. 

The $3.2-billion expansion of Line 1 is among the more ambitious public transit undertakings in North America in recent decades, according to the province and city, who held joint news conferences on both Saturday and Sunday to tout the unveiling.
