The Toronto Zoo's baby rhino has been named Nandu after the public cast more than 11,500 votes to name the calf.

Nandu means "one who is cheerful and happy" and the name was one of the three options provided to voters, along with Kaziranga and Vihaan.

The "little" male Indian rhino calf was born in Feburary to mother Ashakiran and father Vishnu.

Zoo staff say Nandu is gaining about five pounds a day and now weighs more than 400 pounds.
The Toronto Zoo's rhino calf looked unimpressed with the cameras during his first public appearance in March.
