Toronto shooting leaves 1 dead, 3 wounded

One person was killed and three others were wounded Saturday in an afternoon shooting in a northwest Toronto neighbourhood, police said.

One personwas killedand three others were wounded Saturday in a daytime multiple shooting in northwest Toronto, police said.

The shooting occurred about 3 p.m. ET on aresidential streetin Rexdale, police said.

Witnessesdescribed seeinga silver SUV and a carspeeding side by side downthe roadwith smoke coming out of one of the vehicles.

"I looked outmy window and I heard pop-pop-pop-pop-pop," onewitness told CBC News Saturday.

Two of the wounded were in surgery, but their condition was not known, police said.

A bullet-riddled car and abody covered by a blanket could be seen at the sceneas investigators cordoned off the area.

Police were shocked that the shooting took place in broad daylight.

"It's scary whenyou see the number of people in the area and you have a shooting in the middle of a day," Toronto police Supt. Ron Taverner told reporters.

"You have people walking on the street. It's a total disregard for people."

No arrests have been made yet.
