Toronto seeking soundtrack for when you're on hold - unless it's metal
Music needed for hold playback, though metalheads need not apply
Toronto is looking for music to play when callers dial 311 and are put on hold.
The city is encouraging musicians to submit music to be selected for the call-hold soundtrack. City staff will choose only original music made by Toronto-based artists, meaning at least half of the band has to live within the city limits.
The city is looking for all types of music, including music in languages other than English, but there are some rules.
"Yes, we also appreciate metal, thrash and hardcore, but will choose music we feel is best suited to a broad-based audience and callers waiting on hold," reads the rules for submissions.
The lyrics must also adhere to the city's anti-discrimination policies, and not promote discrimination, contempt or hatred.
If the song is selected, the musicians will receive a $50 honorarium.
The current playlist for the call-holds includes singer-songwriter Amanda Martinez and roots reggae artist Jay Douglas.
The deadline to be considered for the September-October period of 311 call-hold recordings is August 15. The application can be found here.
