Ontario's Human Rights Tribunal has awarded a Toronto man $40,000 after finding he was the victim of racial profiling.
Ontario's Human Rights Tribunal has awarded a Toronto man $40,000 after finding he was the victim of racial profiling.
Rawle Maynard, who is black, was driving home from his office in November 2005 when he was followed by a Toronto police officer.
The officer had heard a report about a black man with a gun and arrested Maynard at gunpoint.
It was soon determined, however, that the officer had the wrong man.
The tribunal found that Maynard became an instant suspect simply because he was a young black man.
