Protesters march against racism at Toronto City Hall

Hundreds gathered in downtown Toronto Saturday afternoon to demonstrate against racism and police brutality.

People marched together from Nathan Phillips Square to Yonge-Dundas Square. The protest was in solidarity with similar marches that took place across the U.S. today. Participants said the demonstration was to protest against police tactics they say are unfairly used against minorities in Toronto.

Demonstrators echoed with the familiar chants of "Hands up, don't shoot," "I can't breathe," and "No justice, no peace."

Those words have become iconic since the deaths of Michael Brown in Missouri and Eric Garner in New York City.

The families of both men were joined by protesters and civil rights leaders in Washington D.C, calling for fundamental reform in the way police deal with black Americans.
