Toronto police are warning about several instances of phone call scams that involve someone posing as a police officer and asking for personal information.

Police say a suspect calls people claiming to be a police officer, saying they're investigating fraudulent activity and asking to contact the Chinese authorities to report this.

Police add that although caller I-D is the correct phone number for the 33 division, the calls do not come from the T-P-S.

They're reminding the public that if you receive a phone call from someone identifying themselves as a police officer, you should get their name and badge number and then call back the police directly to confirm whether it is a legitimate call.
