The librarians behind baseball's war of words on Twitter talk about how they came up with the book spine barbs to support the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals.

The battle of the books is heating up between Toronto and Kansas City's public libraries ahead of Game 6 of the American League Championship Series tonight.

Librarians from both appeared on CBC News Now with Heather Hiscox this morning -- where they discussed how the war of words started.

Liesl Christman, the social media manager for the Kansas City Public Library said this is actually the second time it has started a friendly baseball Twitter feud. Last year the library challenged San Francisco when the Royals played the Giants in the World Series.

But Christman said this battle has gotten a lot bigger than that one.

"It's just been so much more popular, we're so surprised by the response," Christman said.

The libraries have traded several jabs back and forth, using book spines this week and it doesn't look like either library will be standing down until the series between the Blue Jays and Royals is over.

The librarians even have their own wager -- separate from that of the cities mayors

Vickery Bowles from the Toronto Public Library revealed that she's bet the director of the Kansas City Public Library some peameal bacon on a bun to counter the director's bet of barbecue on the outcome of the championship series.

Bowles says that wager partially inspired a jab her team posted this morning.

"Kansas City has really challenged us, they've had some great, very poetic tweets so we have to keep up," said Bowles.

The Blue Jays take on the Royals in Kansas City at 8:07 p.m. ET tonight.

Ace pitcher David Price will take the hill for the Jays, looking for his first post-season win. The Royals will start Yordano Ventura.
