CBC Toronto's Sounds of the Season raises $660K for local food banks
9,558 kilograms of food also donated as part of charity drive
CBC Toronto's annual charity drive, Sounds of the Season, raised $661,204 for local food banks this year and received 9,558 kilograms of food.
That's considerably more money than 2014, when $576,683 was raised, but only about half of the 19,116 kilograms of food donated a year ago.
The money raised from the event goes to support five GTA food banks: Daily Bread Food Bank, The Mississauga Food Bank, North York Harvest Food Bank, LifeCorps Food Share and Feed the Need in Durham.
The charity drive began on Dec. 4 at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto with an open house and a day of live music and programming on radio and television, raising $310,000 on that day alone.
Thousands of people arrived for the kick-off — some as early as 3 a.m. — to ensure they got a seat.
Donation pages are open until the end of January. If you'd like to donate, find out how here.
