Snow blamed for Ont. ski resort closure
Heavy snowfall in Ontario is being blamed for the closure of one ski resort north of Toronto.
The Blue Mountain resort in Collingwood, Ont., is not operating its ski lifts Tuesday largely due to road closures in the immediate area caused by a blast of wintry weather.
"Due to poorer driving conditions and high winds and large volumes of snow, we deemed it unsafe to open the lifts today for operating hours," said Kelly O'Neil, a spokeswoman for the resort, adding staff will re-evaluate the situation Wednesday.
"We certainly hope that we'll be back up and running as soon as we can be. We're just waiting to see that the driving conditions are safe and that people on the roads are not taking any risks to get to the resort."
O'Neil couldn't say how many people usually come to the resort on weekdays, but said around 5,000 visited over the weekend.
Snow squalls were expected to drop 15 to 20 centimetres of snow to the lee of Lake Huron and southern Georgian Bay — where Collingwood is located — on Tuesday, Environment Canada said.
