SIU probes crash between car and police cruiser
Ontario's police watchdog is looking into a crash between a car and a police cruiser headed to the scene of a fatal shooting in Toronto.
The Special Investigations Unit says Michael Andrade, 22, of Ajax, Ont., suffered serious injuries in Monday's crash.
The officer was headed to the scene of the shooting in Toronto's Little Italy that left one man dead and another wounded.
Toronto police say the officer's vehicle collided with Andrade's car at an intersection and Andrade was taken to hospital to be treated for a concussion.
A 35-year-old Toronto man was pronounced dead at the scene outside a gelato shop on Monday, in what police are calling a targeted shooting.
Another man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting happened in broad daylight on a sunny afternoon when many soccer fans were gathered at neighbourhood cafes to watch a European Championship game between Italy and Ireland.
Police are looking for a suspect described as six feet tall with blond hair who was wearing a white hard hat, safety vest and a filter mask. He was last seen running from the scene.
