Sexting dangers stressed after Toronto teen charged
Police urge parents to warn kids about dangers of distributing intimate photos
A teenage boy in Toronto has been charged after allegedly trying to coerce a girl, using pictures she had sent him online, into sending him an intimate video of herself.
Police say the teenage girl had begun an online relationship with the boy, who now faces charges of child pornography distribution, extortion and making death threats.
Police alleged the girl provided intimate photos of herself, which the boy then used in an attempt to get her to send him an intimate video, something she refused to do.
The boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, then gained access to the girl's email account and sent the photos to several of her email contacts.
Police say the case highlights the dangers of so-called sexting, sending images of a sexual nature online, where they can rapidly be copied and shared.
Police are urging parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of distributing intimate photos online.
