An 84-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a school bus in Richmond Hill that fled the scene.

The collision happened Tuesday on Yonge Street north of Silverwood Avenue.

York Regional Police were called around 3 p.m. about a pedestrian that had been hit by a school bus.

When officers arrived, they found the woman with a head injury and that the bus had left the scene, a news release says.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and later transported to a trauma centre, when her injuries were determined to be more serious.

She remained in hospital and died from her injuries Wednesday.

Police say the driver of the school bus has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
