Rob Ford's re-election platform 'very simple,' Doug Ford says

If anyone is curious what kind of agenda Mayor Rob Ford will pursue if re-elected this fall, his brother says it is pretty straightforward.

"His platform is very simple," Coun. Doug Ford, who is acting as the mayor's campaign manager, said Monday.

The councillor said that platform includes "respecting the taxpayer," building subways and "making sure that we keep the fiscal foundation of this city going the way it's going."

When fielding questions about his brother's platform, at one point he turned the conversation to two of the mayor's most prominent opponents.

"Platform? I think our platform is pretty clear," he said. "John Tory's platform is [to] tell Rob Ford to step down. Olivia Chow's is very similar."

The Oct. 27 election is now less than four months away. Dozens of candidates are seeking the incumbent mayor's job in addition to Chow and Tory.

Monday marked Mayor Ford's first council meeting since returning from rehab at the end of June. He had spent two months away from city hall getting treatment for substance abuse.

Ford, 45, was elected as mayor of Toronto in the fall of 2010. He came to power after spending a decade serving as a city councillor.
