Rob Ford has undergone second biopsy, columnist says
Ailing mayor tells columnist he's had second biopsy performed on his lungs
A newspaper columnist who spoke by phone with Rob Ford on Monday said the Toronto mayor is in "rough shape" and has undergone a second biopsy — this time on his lungs.
In a story published Tuesday, Toronto Sun columnist Joe Warmington reported that Ford — who is already awaiting the results of a biopsy on a tumour discovered last week in his abdomen — had another biopsy performed on Monday.
Here's how Warmington, a columnist often granted exclusive access to the Fords, reported it in Tuesday's edition of the Sun:
"[Rob Ford] also had some invasive testing Monday. The mayor described it as doctors 'going into my lungs' to take a biopsy."
Warmington spoke about his conversation with Ford in an interview Tuesday on Toronto radio station Newstalk 1010.
"This is not some sort of a game. He's in for the fight of his life," Warmington said. "He's in rough shape in there. I came away from it feeling pretty sad."
Warmington also reported the mayor is making constituent calls from his bed at Mount Sinai hospital.
On Friday Rob Ford dropped out of the mayor's race, due to health concerns. He was replaced on the ballot by his brother Coun. Doug Ford.
Rob Ford will run for a council seat in Etobicoke North (Ward 2), the ward Doug Ford currently represents.
During his radio interview, Warmington was asked if Ford has cancer. Here's how he responded:
"There's certainly suggestions that's what it is. He did not say that to me. He talked about having a second biopsy. Some sort of a scope to go into his lungs. That's the first time we've reported it because it came directly from him."
Neither the Ford family nor the Mt. Sinai Hospital has released any new information about Ford's condition.
