What's the scariest movie of all time? Metro Morning listeners vote
Looking for a bone-chilling movie to watch this Halloween? We've got you covered
It's the perfect time of year for curling up on the couch with a warm bowl of popcorn and a scary movie that leaves you shaken and sleep deprived.
At least, that's how Metro Morning columnist and horror film aficionado Jesse Wente feels.
"They tend to indulge in the magic of movies, the trickery of movies," said Wente when asked about his love of horror flicks.
"They get you into a psychological place, a physical place, that I think is really interesting and fun."
So what's the scariest movie you can watch this Halloween season?
"The scariest thing I've seen recently is actually a documentary," said Wente."It's a film called Rats ... and it's a documentary about rats, the animal rats, all over the planet."
The film travels the world to see how different cities are trying to control the world's rat population, but uses classic horror movie editing and music to really make your skin crawl.
"A truly scary movie," Wente said.
Another option if you want something more unsettling then disgusting is the popular Netflix series Stranger Things, Wente said.
Still, you can't go wrong with classics like The Exorcist and Alien — or Matt Galloway's pick Prince of Darkness.
"We do have a lot of fears, and usually they're the mundane type of fears, like losing your job, that sort of thing," said Wente. "These movies tend to allow you to escape all of that with much larger, sort of bigger fears that maybe make the minor stuff go away a little bit."
Your picks for scary movies
Wente isn't the only person who enjoys a bit of escapism through a scary film. Here are some of your picks for the scariest movies:
